Senior Buyer

Position: Senior Buyer
Location: Clinton, Iowa
Salary: $65k - $80k 

Job Description:

This position is responsible for all procurement necessary to keep the plant equipped with materials, supplies and services in keeping with budgetary goals and requirement.  Responsibilities include the coordination of all activities related to procurement such as supplier management and approval, supplier performance monitoring and reporting, plant level AP functions, and inbound freight-related expenses using best purchasing practices and in conformance with corporate procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the cost, quality and time-oriented supply of all required goods, materials under compliance with the respective business plans, budgets and targets

  • Manages inventory levels to targets; monitors customer demand and production schedules to ensure adequate material availability.

  • Manage suppliers and commodities to ensure supply continuity and appropriate pricing

  • Ensure that costs are competitive with current markets; negotiate cost reductions where appropriate; implement alternate sourcing where appropriate.

  • Improve working capital through optimum payment terms

  • Lead and coordinate cost savings projects

  • Understand, track and forecast the key cost drivers and market factors for assigned materials/commodities

  • Develop and execute Request for Proposal (RFPs); facilitate management review and selection.

  • Support day to day procurement functions such as PO process execution, contract review and renewal, PO approval

  • Support payable process through invoice/receipt/PO matching, invoice coding, check printing and mailing

  • Monitors incoming freight costs based on established budgets; negotiate freight cost reductions; implement alternative sources for cost reductions

  • Maintains, track, and reports supplier quality rating – on time delivery, supplier project portfolio management (PPM)’s and expedited freight.; manage supplier approval process and status

  • Manages the return of defective materials with suppliers including authorization of payment of invoices or return of merchandise.

  • Requests and reviews supplier corrective actions.

  • Maintains and performs monthly raw material inventory

  • Confers with Sales and provides quotes/pricing as needed.

  • Monitors and measures key metrics to ensure that organizational goals are achieved; proactively identify and implement improvement initiatives.

  • Attends daily production meetings and presents any material shortages or supplier issues.

  • Develop and implement strategies to improve operational efficiency, add value and drive continuous improvement

  • Travels up to 20% of the time.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management or similar discipline, and 5 years related work experience in a manufacturing environment; or

  • Equivalent combination of above education and experience.

  • Strong analytical and project management abilities

  • Advanced computer skills with Microsoft Office Suite and business systems software.

  • Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions from groups of managers, coworkers, vendors and customers.

  • Experience with lean manufacturing and six sigma environment a plus.
