Estimator 

General Contractor 

Multi-family Residential, Highrise  

Vancouver, BC  

$100,000 - $130,000 Annual Salary 

 

Our client in the Vancouver area is looking for an Estimator to join their growing business.  

 

Estimator Duties & Responsibilities:  

• Preparing estimates of the cost of materials, labour and equipment for a construction project 

• Understanding and reading schemes in order to make estimates of the cost of the project 

• Establishing and maintaining the tendering(bidding) process 

• Setting up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures 

• Maintaining a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors 

• Working with engineers, architects, owners, and contractors on feasibility studies and making adjustments to the cost when needed 

• Managing and coordinating construction projects and preparing construction progress schedules 

• Preparing estimates of labour, material costs, general expenses and overheads 

• Operating computer software programs 

• Reading and interpreting blueprints, maps, drawings and project specifications 

• Understanding and being able to advise on the tendering process 

• Setting up cost monitoring and reporting systems 

• Maintaining a directory of suppliers and trade contractors 

• Collaborating with engineers, architects, owners and contractors 

 

Estimator Qualifications:  

• 5+ years in a safety leadership position.  

• A college degree in civil or construction engineering. 

•  Certification from the Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors. 

•  Experience in residential and/or mixed-rise construction is preferred.  

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  

• Strong leadership skills.  

• Good computer skills and experience using MS Office and safety software.  

• Excellent organizational, time management, and relationship-building skills.  

• Knowledge of construction safety protocols.
