Industrial Instrumentation Controls Technician

TalentSphere Staffing has partnered with an industry leader in the Commercial HVAC and Industrial Controls Systems Space.

Our client is looking to hire an Industrial Instrumentation Controls Technician for their Greater Toronto Area location. The position will be on a full-time permanent basis.

Reporting directly to the Industrial Team Leader, the Industrial Instrumentation Controls Technician is primary responsible for providing configuration, service, start up and commissioning of combustion controls systems in industrial plants.

Hourly rate is $35-$45 based on experience.

Duties and Responsibilities

Service:
  • Calibrating boiler room instruments using the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)
  • Testing and tuning industrial boilers to achieve maximum combustion efficiency
  • Tuning of process controller to ensure process variability is reduced, efficiency is maximized, energy costs are minimized, and production rates can be increased
  • Troubleshooting and repairing of all elements of a combustion controls system including PLC’s DCS, HMI’s stand-alone controllers, primary and final control elements, recorders, data acquisition, burner management systems, fuel delivery systems, annunciators, compressed air, make up water, DA, and feedwater.
  • Providing recommendations for repair and Improvements
Retrofit & New Installations:
  • Retrofitting and installing new primary and final control elements
  • Supervising other trades as required
  • Installing and commissioning of all elements of a combustion controls system including PLC’s DCS, HMI’s stand-alone controllers, primary and final control elements, recorders, data acquisition, burner management systems, fuel delivery systems, annunciators, compressed air, make up water, DA, and feedwater.
  • Performing start up and commissioning
  • Testing combustion and operational efficiency
  • Maintaining backup and revision documentation for control systems and instrumentation
Communication and Teamwork:
  • Communicating effectively with customers and team members on what work is being done, and any recommendations for repairs or improvements and follows up with customers.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Post-secondary education in Instrumentation, Electronics or Mechanical Engineering Technology (Industrial) or any engineering courses coupled with a minimum of three (3) years’ related work experience in industrial instrumentation controls
  • Certified Journeyman Instrumentation Technician and or Certified Engineering Technologist is an asset
  • Proven ability to develop an understanding of the entire combustion/boiler processes and applies knowledge in performing system diagnosis, start up and commissioning, and developing solutions to remedy or improve the process
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to effectively troubleshoot industrial control systems
  • Working knowledge of DCS, PLC, HMI, and system integration is an asset
  • Demonstrated understanding of AutoCAD, Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English with the ability to effectively present to clients and management team. Fluency in more than one language is an asset
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work under minimal supervision
  • Effective time management skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and work well with others
  • Willing and able to travel within and outside the province of Ontario on as needed basis
  • Able to lift up to 50lbs unassisted, perform repetitive tasks, and work in inclement weather and/or work areas where heat/cold could be a factor
  • Willing and able to work overtime on as needed basis with minimum notice
