Manager of Safety – Commercial Roofing

Salary: $80,000–$100,000 annually + bonuses
Location: Laurel, MD

About the Role

A leading provider of roofing and building envelope solutions is seeking a Manager of Safety to spearhead their safety programs from the Laurel, MD office, with periodic travel to Virginia Beach, VA. This position is instrumental in ensuring safety compliance, minimizing risks, and fostering a culture of safety excellence across projects in sensitive environments, such as healthcare, government, and institutional facilities.
Ideal candidates are experienced safety professionals who thrive under tight deadlines, adapt to complex challenges, and prioritize precision and compliance in high-stakes project environments.

Key Responsibilities
Safety Leadership:

  • Design, implement, and maintain robust safety programs, including fall protection, hazard communication, and job site safety protocols.
  • Lead interactive and impactful safety training sessions to educate employees and reinforce safe practices.
Risk Management:
  • Conduct detailed safety inspections, identify risks, recommend corrective actions, and ensure follow-through.
  • Investigate safety incidents, analyze root causes, and oversee the implementation of corrective measures.
Compliance and Standards:
  • Ensure full compliance with OSHA regulations, federal, state, and local safety requirements, as well as project-specific safety standards.
  • Provide expert guidance during audits to maintain compliance with stringent client safety expectations.
Collaboration and Oversight:
  • Partner with Project Managers, Superintendents, Subcontractors, and Suppliers to enforce safety standards.
  • Develop and implement Site-Specific Safety Plans and Activity Hazard Analyses tailored to complex project requirements.
Team Development:
  • Conduct new employee safety orientations and establish local branch safety committees.
  • Assist in policy creation and deliver ongoing training to elevate safety awareness and practices.
Qualifications
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Safety Management, or a related field preferred.
  • (5+ years of relevant field experience may substitute for education.)
Experience:
  • Proven success developing and managing safety programs with measurable results.
  • Experience overseeing safety across multiple locations simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage safety operations in occupied mission-critical facilities (e.g., hospitals, government buildings).
Skills:
  • Expertise in fall protection and working at heights.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety protocols.
  • Strong problem-solving, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and familiarity with Procore (preferred).
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) proficiency is a plus.
Certifications:
  • OSHA 30-hour Construction Certification (required or willingness to obtain).
  • OSHA 500, EM 385, or Fall Protection Trainer Certification (preferred).
  • BCSP Certification (advantageous).
