What the role encompasses
  • Providing timely and accurate analysis of forecasts, financial results, cash flows and operating metrics;
  • Completing the monthly financial reporting processes, including account analysis, and/or preparation and review of monthly reconciliations, including but not limited to bank reconciliations, GST returns, and journal entries in an accurate and timely manner;
  • Maintaining a strong internal control environment to ensure continuous compliance with various regulatory requirements, including ASPE, applicable federal and provincial laws and regulations for financial and tax reporting;
  • Ensure that costs are accurately captured and monitor budget adherence;
  • Supporting the accounting team in their daily tasks and responsibilities;
  • Providing mentoring to the team with a focus on continuous skill development and professional and career growth;
  • Preparation of financial statements including disclosure notes in accordance with ASPE;
  • Providing timely and accurate analysis of forecasts, financial results, cash flows and operating metrics;
  • Planning and coordinating the external audit and tax compliance process;
  • Perform cash flow forecasting and analysis;
  • Identifying ways to streamline the day-to-day accounting operations and make processes more efficient;
  • Assisting with the preparation of ad hoc reports, financial reviews and special projects as directed by the leadership team
 
Who you are
  • CPA or CGA or in pursuit of an accounting designation;
  • Knowledge of ASPE;
  • Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in accounting;
  • You have 5-7+ years of related experience in a finance or accounting environment;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel;
  • Strong analytical skills through your experience working on complex and often difficult transactions.
  • Previous experience in real estate accounting;
  • Strong knowledge of financial metrics;
  • Experience working with Yardi
  • Strong people skills, with the proven ability to build relationships at all levels, both internally and externally;
  • Positivity, influence and energy;
  • Strong communication skills, demonstrated in written, verbal report writing, presentations and meeting facilitation;
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a rapidly changing environment;
  • Responsive, a strong ability in anticipating needs and delivering on commitments;
  • An innovator who delivers on commitments, with the proven ability to identify, evaluate, develop new ideas and deliver results.
