US Manufacturer of building materials seeks an experienced regional General Manager to provide leadership for the Canadian operation by developing and implementing the strategic and operational business plans that achieve revenue, profitability and growth. 

As leader of this multi million dollar business, the successful individual will drive operational effectiveness, profitable sales growth, and customer satisfaction across all business locations and product lines. A leader of people, they will ensure that the right structure, talent and other resources are in place to maximize the success of the business nationally. 

Working closely with senior leadership in the United States, the successful candidate will develop and implement a yearly Business Plan that includes: Sales, Marketing, Information Systems, customer service. They will implement location specific goals that drive top line sales performance while maintaining profitability goals established by the organization.

The role has full P&L responsibility for the Canadian operation and is autonomous from the US business in that it has its own finance, HR, marketing and technology functions supporting the operations and sales teams. This is the Canadian distribution of a US manufacturer providing products to consumers, contractors and dealers. A solid understanding of the Canadian building materials industry would be highly valued. 

Whilst the business has good people, it is currently operating below maximum performance and needs a leader experienced in leading transformation and maximizing performance across an organisation. They should have a proven track record in driving success and should be able to demonstrate proven examples of where they have lead change. 

This is an organisation that sells premium product, has a strong reputation for quality and has a business culture that reflects this. The leadership holds high standards for themselves and expect the same from their employees. A leader within this environment is key in setting the tone for the organisation and their actions very much denote the culture across Canada. As such we are looking for someone with high levels of integrity, a customer orientation and a focus on long term commercial relationship building. 

Who we are looking for

The successful candidate will have an established reputation within the Canadian building materials industry as a leader who gets things done. They will have previously been accountable for business operations in the region of $30m-$75m whether this has been a regional or national role but should have had full P&L responsibility. It is difficult to conceive how this person will do the role without proven experience leading both sales and operations. Most importantly we are looking for a dynamic leader; someone to drive change; to inspire the team around them; and to bring employees, customers and business partners with them on their journey of transformation.
