A leading Architectural Firm, downtown Vancouver
 
What the role encompasses
 
Working closely with the Project Teams, the Project Accountant is responsible the setup, maintenance, analysis, and reporting of projects.
 
Project Setup                                                
  • Verify all the project data and financial information forms submitted by the Project Manager (PM) or Project Administrator (PA) to ensure they are fully complete and accurate
  • Coordinate with the PM or PA to ensure a project work plan is in place 
  • Provide detailed reviews of contracts including scope, fee schedule and terms and conditions
  • Confirm phase and team structure with PM
  • Maintain project financial details such as updating changes to the contracts, scope changes, EWA’s in the system
 
Project Performance
  • Liaise with the Project Performance Manager (PPM), Project Director (PD), and PM to facilitate the project’s financial success.
  • Conduct monthly reviews with PPM, PD and PM regarding project performance
  • Ensure any project contract and financial revisions or adjustments are noted by the PM and are reflected in the ERP system
 
Invoicing / Revenue Recognition / Reporting
  • Ensure project percent completes are updated in a timely manner by PMs
  • Generate a suggested billings report and draft invoices for each project as part of the monthly invoicing package
  • Assist PM with the invoicing process
  • Review any invoicing variances and investigate; once confirmed, update any necessary changes in the system
  • Calculate the revenue to be recognized for each project, enter in the percent completes for revenue recognition and prepare a hyper profit report that includes an analysis of changes from prior months
  • Prepare the monthly market sector analysis report for the financial package
  • Compile and analyze Work In Progress reports
 
Closing Projects                                                  
  • Review checklist for the project close process; ensure all costs have been accounted for, final invoices have been sent to the client and obtain PM sign off
 
Other
  • Assist during the year end audit
 
 
 
Who you are
 
  • Business-related university degree or diploma with registration and progress towards the completion of a professional accounting designation (i.e. - CMA or CGA), or a combination of education and experience, or at least 5 years accounting experience, the majority of which is in a related environment
  • Experience with cost accounting is an asset; understanding of accounting best practices in project management in architecture or construction
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills
  • Good verbal and written communication
  • High level of professionalism, initiative, and creativity
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills; able to manage pressure and meet deadlines
