An established building materials business with multiple branches in the Lower Mainland seeks an experienced manager to assist the General Manager and Sales Manager in driving the business throughout Vancouver and the Lower Mainland.

The role

This multi-million dollar division of a well known and respected building materials business is currently enjoying profitable sales but has substantial room for improvement through more efficient use of resources. As such, they currently seek an Assistant General Manager to join the management team and to contribute to both sales and operational leadership

The Assistant General Manager will be tasked to provide additional leadership support for the circa 35 person strong business generating revenues in excess of $20 million.

Tasks will include; 
  • to assist in the sales responsibilities by working directly with key accounts and prospective new business 
  • to manage business operations through careful management of costs
  • to efficiently allocate people and resources
  • to effectively maintain labor relations and labor avoidance
  • to contribute to shrewd financial management of multiple branches' P&Ls
  • to work with the General Manager in whatever way most effective to drive the business forward in the region
The sales responsibilities will require the individual to lead from the front, inspire the team and, by making educated, commercial decisions, ultimately lead the expansion each market. The target market is both contractors and dealers.

Who are we looking for? 
The successful individuals will be able to demonstrate the leadership skills to not only pull the team along but, where required and appropriately, push the team along and drive performance.The individual will have a proven track record from within the building materials industry or a very closely aligned vertical such as electrical, plumbing, HVAC, coatings etc. Ideally the individual will have both sales and operations experience and must have management experience in at least one of these disciplines. 

The responsibility to contribute to sales and to drive sales is a necessity so it is absolutely essential that the individual has very strong 'people skills' and most likely sales experience. 
The successful candidate will be a doer, someone who is performance driven, a natural leader; a sales orientated person with a sense of humor and down to earth personality.
