About the role:
The Controller will oversee all financial reporting, compliance, and accounting operations across the company portfolio. This role is ideal for a proactive, detail-oriented financial leader who thrives in a multi-entity, multi-jurisdictional environment. You'll play a critical role in building scalable systems, maintaining regulatory compliance in both Canada and the U.S., and supporting strategic decision-making for our leadership team.
This role will report into the CEO and be responsible for the following, but not limited to:
- Lead all day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and job costing
- Manage the month-end and year-end close process across multiple operating entities
- Prepare consolidated internal financial reports, dashboards, and variance analyses
- Maintain accurate intercompany reporting and manage cash flow across entities
- Ensure compliance with Canadian and U.S. accounting standards, tax filings, and financial regulations
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning initiatives
- Liaise with external accountants, auditors, and advisors in both Canada and the U.S.
- Implement and refine accounting systems, controls, and processes to support growth
- Oversee and grow a small finance team, including bookkeepers and accounting support roles
- CPA designation (or equivalent), with 5–10 years of experience in a senior accounting or controllership role
- Experience supporting construction, HVAC, or project-based service businesses preferred
- Strong understanding of both Canadian and U.S. GAAP, tax, and regulatory requirements
- Proven ability to manage accounting across multiple legal entities and jurisdictions
- Proficiency in accounting systems such as QuickBooks, Sage, or equivalent ERP platforms
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a process-driven mindset
- Comfortable working in a dynamic, growing company with evolving needs
