Senior Estimator – US (Remote)
Structural Steel Industry | $110K–$130K DOE | Full-Time
Overview
Our client, a leading player in the structural steel fabrication and erection space, is seeking an experienced and technically skilled Senior Estimator to join their US team remotely. This role is critical in producing accurate cost estimates for large-scale structural steel projects while supporting project planning and business development initiatives. Ideal candidates will bring a deep technical understanding of steel construction, strong estimation capabilities, and proven ability to work cross-functionally with operations and engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating & Technical Analysis
- Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for steel fabrication and erection projects of varying complexity
- Analyze architectural/engineering drawings, contract specs, and bid documents to determine project scope
- Conduct material takeoffs using both steel detailing software and manual methods
- Develop labor hour projections considering project challenges, crew rates, and site conditions
- Assess crane and equipment needs and calculate logistics and erection costs
Technical & Project Support
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field personnel to validate assumptions
- Participate in pre-bid walkthroughs, client presentations, and technical reviews
- Identify constructability issues, risk factors, and opportunities for value engineering
- Maintain cost history databases and productivity benchmarks
- Support contract change orders and pricing throughout the project lifecycle
Business Development Support
- Engage in active lead identification and competitive bidding strategies
- Assemble professional bid proposals and project schedules
- Maintain and grow relationships with contractors, engineers, suppliers, and industry stakeholders
- Monitor material price trends and competitor landscape
- Provide technical consulting on bids and project feasibility
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or similar
- 7–10 years of structural steel estimating experience (fabrication and erection focus preferred)
- Experience with general contractors or subcontractor-side estimating also considered
Technical Competency
- Proficient with estimating tools such as Trimble, PlanSwift, or equivalent
- Hands-on experience with steel detailing software such as Tekla or SDS/2
- In-depth knowledge of AISC standards, AWS welding procedures, and steel erection practices
- High-level Excel skills for custom cost modeling
- Strong understanding of construction contracts, schedules, and scopes
Core Skills
- Meticulous attention to detail with strong numerical and technical acumen
- Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and specifications
- Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal
- Strong time management and ability to handle multiple active estimates
- Collaborative, team-oriented mindset with proactive problem-solving skills
Preferred Assets
- PE license or certifications such as CCC or CPE
- Background in field operations or project management
- Existing relationships within the GC/Developer/Architect community
- Market research and lead generation experience in steel or construction
