Senior Estimator Position

Location: Austin, San Antonio, TX

Start Date: Open Until Filled

Employment Type: Full-Time

Hours per Week: 40-50 hours/week

Salary Range: $130,000 - $150,000 annually, dependent on experience 

Required Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Science, Engineering, Architecture, or related fields preferred

Required Experience: 10 years of commercial construction experience, with at least 5 years in estimating

Position Overview: An esteemed General Contractor is seeking a skilled Senior Estimator to join their team in Austin and San Antonio, TX. The ideal candidate will be responsible for crafting accurate and timely proposals and estimates for various construction projects within the company's portfolio.

Key Responsibilities:

Estimating and Cost Analysis:

  • Develop comprehensive estimates based on varying levels of project design information (Program, Concept, Schematic, Design Development, Construction Documents).
  • Anticipate and estimate project elements not yet shown in design but necessary for project completion.
  • Ensure alignment between pricing and the scope of work by reviewing and understanding narratives, plans, and specifications.
  • Participate in the development and review of design alternatives, cost options, and value engineering.
  • Develop and manage pricing bid strategies, breakouts, and work packages.
  • Explain pricing and costs to clients and engineers.
  • Assist project teams in evaluating submitted proposals and developing scopes of work for subcontracts.
  • Coordinate with marketing personnel on the technical aspects of proposals.

Design Review:

  • Conduct reviews of drawings and specifications to ensure information adequacy for respective document levels.
  • Research and interpret relevant building codes.
  • Participate constructively in project meetings.
  • Provide input on constructability, logistics, sequencing, design considerations, and pricing.

Scheduling:

  • Provide input on task durations for schedules.
  • Identify and communicate lead times for schedule incorporation.

Minimum Requirements:

  • 10 years of commercial construction experience, with at least 5 years in estimating.
  • A positive attitude and strong work ethic.
  • Proficiency with software such as OnCenter, Sage Timberline, Bluebeam Revu/Studio, Building Connected, and other industry-related software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a collaborative approach in working with clients, design team members, and subcontractors.
  • Solid fundamental mathematical and visualization skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft software, including Excel for data analysis and Outlook & Word for document creation and correspondence.
  • Ability to write reports, develop forms, and effectively communicate with all organizational levels.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Knowledge of the subcontractor market.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Science, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
  • Field experience on construction projects (project management or field supervision).
  • Experience using BIM software (Revit, Navisworks, Assemble, etc.).
