Our Client is an established Building Materials Manufacturer of custom goods for the Commercial Construction clients across Canada.  The Procurement & Inventory Control Lead manages purchase planning, supplier negotiation, supplier management, strategic process development, inventory control, cost management and documentation.  This role is critical to effectively controlling costs and quality improvement within the Supply Chain department. Reporting to the Plant Manager the ideal candidate comes with prior custom manufacturing experience along with an excellent understanding of materials planning/ procurement and is highly organized and thrives in a fast paced environment.


The Role:
  • Oversee the organization’s purchasing/procurement/inventory planning functions to minimize the overall costs without compromising quality, reliability of supply and delivery time.
  • ERP accuracy, maintenance & setup
  • Vendor Management and evaluation
  • Proactively identify market trends and commodity impacts to identify and anticipate potential risks to material, cost, and/or quality by critically analyzing sales
  • Establish and maintain performance improvement measures for vendors
  • Ensuring that all raw materials meet the required quality standards and specifications
  • Collaborate with, mentor and coach junior buyers
  • Assist in evaluating and negotiating complex or strategically important relationships to secure terms that are the in best interest of the organization
  • Determine along with production inventory selection, qualities, lead times while maintaining accurate inventory systems
  • Review costs and analyze forecasts for production planning along with Management
  • Initiate continuous improvement projects to reduce cost and improve quality
  • Develop and implement clear supplier KPI’s
  • Ensuring that all inbound logistics are managed in an efficient manner
  • Collaborate daily with internal stake holders – Production, AP, Customer service, Marketing and Sales
  • Ensuring the accuracy, quality and specs of inventory. Ensuring the update of all goods received in the system in a timely fashion and that BOM reflects the correct usage
  • Conducting inventory counts and ensuring ERP system data is correct

The Ideal Candidate:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or supply chain/ procurement is preferred
  • APICS would be an asset
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in supply chain/purchasing/inventory experience with a preference given to those with manufacturing experience
  • Prior leadership experience would be an asset
  • Understanding of lean principles including (Value- Stream mapping) experience would be an asset
  • ERP/MRP experience
  • Be detail-oriented and have excellent follow-through skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to demonstrate flexible and efficient time management and to appropriately prioritize workload based upon organization or department needs
  • Must have demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills and effective organizational skills
  • Excellent planning, and organizational skills with the ability to effectively manage several projects at one time while providing high attention to details and excellent follow-through skills
